Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 1,127-megawatt (MW) Unit 02 at Sequoyah Nuclear Power Station was shut down Sunday after a drain condenser vacuum pump was lost. The station, which is owned by Tennessee Valley Authority (Knoxville, Tennessee), is located in Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee.
Plant officials confirmed that they tripped the reactor to take the unit offline for repairs and a thorough analysis. Officials said that they will complete a full investigation into why this incident occurred. After all tests are completed, they hope to return the unit online by Thursday, February 28, if there are no delays.
The plant has two generating units, for a total generating capacity of 2,277 MW when at full load. Unit 01 will continue to generate online at full load capacity.
