TransAlta Energy Corporation a subsidiary of TranAlta Corporation (NYSE:TAC, TSE:TA) (Calgary, Alberta) recently completed the construction of a 248 megawatt (MW) combined-cycle unit at its Centralia Power Station and will increase the plants capacity by 16.90%.
The Centralia Power Station now has a total electrical generation capacity of 1708MW. It has two coal-fired units at 730MW each and one combined-cycle natural/gas-fired unit with four combustion turbine/generators, four heat recovery steam generators and a steam turbine/generator.
The combined-cycle addition design & preliminary engineering for the plant were provided by Stone & Webster a division of The Shaw Group (NYSE: SGR) (Baton Rouge, Louisiana). D&G Mechanical of Pacific, Washington, provided the final engineering and construction.
TransAlta was established in 1911 and is one of Canada's largest power generators. They have more than $7 billion in electrical and natural gas assets and are concentrating growth in North America (Canada, Mexico and United States).
