Translational Research Facility Rising on University of Minnesota Campus

Construction is well underway on the $37 million Translational Research Facility (TRF) at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities (Minneapolis, Minnesota). First reported by Industrialinfo.com in 2002 Pharmaceutical Tracker - Online Database, the 96,000 square foot, four-story building is being built on the university's East Bank campus, next to the 52,500 square foot Lions Research Building, which was built in 1991.

Perkins & Will (Minneapolis, Minnesota) designed the TRF, which will be a flexible medical/biological facility that includes labs, instrumentation rooms and procedural suites. Translational research takes basic science discoveries and develops them into therapies for the prevention and treatment of disease. The physicians who work in this field are known as clinical scientists.

Kraus-Anderson (Minneapolis, Minnesota) is serving as the project's general contactor. Thirty-three researchers and their support staff will work on developing therapeutics for a number of ailments, including cancer, HIV-AIDS, Alzheimer's and hemophilia in the new building when it is completed in 2006.
