Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Trunkline Gas Company LLC (Houston, Texas), a business unit of Panhandle Energy (Houston, Texas), a subsidiary of Southern Union Company (NYSE:SUG)(Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania), has received FERC approval from federal regulators for its planned pipeline to export regasified natural gas from its LNG terminal at Lake Charles in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana. The new 23-mile section of 36-inch diameter pipeline will loop existing Trunkline Gas rights of way and will handle the expanded natural gas take-off from the Phase II & IIA, as well as Phase III expansions at the Lake Charles LNG Terminal.

Trunkline Gas has retained the engineering and project management services of Willbros Engineers Incorporated (Tulsa, Oklahoma) for the project and expects to select a general contractor for the pipeline project by March of 2005. Trunkline expects to begin construction on the $40 million pipeline project in the summer of 2005, with a completion date set for late 2005. When the pipeline becomes operational it will add over one billion cubic feet per day of natural gas capacity to Trunkline's system. When the Phase III expansion is completed, the Lake Charles LNG receiving terminal will have a re-gasification capacity of approximately three billion cubic feet per day making it the largest LNG import terminal in North America.
