Two New Liquid Petroleum Products Storage Terminals Prepare to Come Online in Southern U.S.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)-- TEPPCO Partners LP (NYSE:TPP) (Houston, Texas) and International Matex Tank Terminals (New Orleans, Louisiana) are each nearing completion of their terminals in Boligee, Alabama, and Geismar, Louisiana, respectively. Both companies plan to have the terminals in operation by early second quarter 2008.

TEPPCO is putting the finishing touches on its 500,000-barrel refined-products terminal. TEPPCO utilized the construction services of Texas-based companies, Talon Industries Incorporated and Tank Builders Incorporated, which began construction activities in summer 2007.

The terminal facilities include five tanks ranging from 40,000 to 180,000 barrels, a three-bay loading rack on an 80-acre site. The site is approximately 2 miles from Colonial Pipeline providing transportation by way of pipeline in addition to rail, truck and a new barge offloading facility. The new terminal will support TEPPCO's strategy for utilizing river transportation and pipelines to improve the logistics for markets that have traditionally been serviced by truck delivery.

International Matex is wrapping up construction of a $150 million terminal in Geismar, Louisiana. The 600,000-barrel terminal will have 30 tanks and will include a packaging and drumming facility for feedstock and finished chemical products. There are also three truck-loading stations capable of loading eight trucks at once and three rail loading stations capable of loading 14 rail cars simultaneously. The receipt and storage terminal will provide shipment by way of ship, barge, pipeline, truck and rail. Docking facilities will be able to accommodate one ship or three barges at once.

Engineering, procurement and construction duties were handled by CDI Engineering, which began construction in late 2005. The 115-acre terminal was initially developed to serve the needs of BASF, but it has the potential to service other customers along the Mississippi River, as well. The terminal is next to the Geismar BASF chemical complex. The terminal also has pipeline connections to neighboring chemical plants.
