Researched by Industrial Information Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 770-megawatt (MW) Unit 1 at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska, shut down on Friday, May 30, to repair faulty seals in its recirculation pump. The station is owned by Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) (Columbus, Nebraska).
Plant officials are investigating the cause and anticipate that the unit will be off-line for about five days, based on preliminary findings. They are collecting data from their ongoing analysis and have determined that the seals will need to be replaced due to wear and tear.
The Cooper plant has one generating unit with a total capacity of 770 MW when at full load.
Nebraska Public Power District is Nebraska's largest electric utility, servicing about 600,000 residents of the state.
