U.S. Foodservice to Expand Florida Distribution Center

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--North Star Food Service, the multi-unit specialty division of U.S. Foodservice (Rosemont, Illinois) is planning a $35 million expansion of a facility in Daytona Beach, Florida. The company plans to increase the footprint of its Port Orange distribution center from 168,000 square feet to approximately 409,000 square feet and consolidate operations from a facility in Ormond Beach, Florida. The building addition will include refrigerator and freezer space, dry storage areas, and 30 additional truck docks.

The expansion will allow the company to reduce fixed costs and improve routing efficiency and warehouse productivity.

North Star is working with ESI Constructors (Hartland, Wisconsin) to provide design-build services. Construction is slated to begin this summer, and the expansion is scheduled to be completed in mid-2011.

U.S. Foodservice is owned by private equity firms Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Company (New York, New York) and Clayton, Dubilier & Rice LLC (New York).
