Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--More than $4.5 billion in industrial capital and maintenance projects are planned to kick off in the U.S. Midwest market region during the third quarter of this year. The region consists of the states of Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Missouri. South Dakota and North Dakota occupy the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively, in terms of total investment value. The states have a combined project total investment value of more than $1.75 billion. Iowa, with 36 planned project starts worth $732 million, is No. 3 for the value of project starts.
One of the projects planned to kick off in Kansas during the quarter is the 130-mile natural gas (NGL) pipeline extension on DCP Midstream LLC's (Denver, Colorado) Southern Hills NGL pipeline project. The project has an estimated total investment value of approximately $260 million and is scheduled to be wrapped up in the summer of 2013.
In Iowa, POET LLC (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) will commence the conversion of its existing ethanol plant in Emmetsburg, Iowa, to handle cellulosic material. The plant currently uses corn feedstock and has a nameplate capacity of 50 million gallons of ethanol per year. The conversion process should take approximately one year. After the conversion project, which has an estimated total investment value of $200 million, the plant will be able to produce approximately 25 million gallons per year of fuel ethanol from cellulosic feedstock.
Information on these and other U.S. industrial projects is available in Industrial Info's North American Project Database.
