U.S. Northeast to See More than $8 Billion in Project Kickoffs in Second-Quarter 2016, Fueled by Region's Natural Gas
The U.S. Northeast region is looking at its highest total investment value for quarterly kickoffs since at least 2014, with more than 200 projects worth $8.25 billion set to begin construction from April through July.
The Northeast region includes Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
The Power Industry is in the lead with $2.97 billion in projects set to begin construction from April through June, including Public Service Enterprise Group Incorporated's (NYSE:PEG) (Newark, New Jersey) $650 million combined-cycle unit addition in Sewaren, New Jersey. The project involves building a 337-megawatt (MW) General Electric (NYSE:GE) natural gas-fired combustion turbine generator, with a duct-fired heat-recovery steam generator, and a 203-MW steam turbine generator. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
The Oil & Gas Pipelines Industry is in a strong second place with $1.75 billion worth of projects set to kick off in the Northeast in second-quarter 2016, the largest of which is Energy Transfer Partners LP's (NYSE:ETP) (Dallas, Texas) $1 billion, second-phase construction of the Mariner East pipeline from Ohio to Pennsylvania. The company is planning 340 to 350 miles of new natural gas liquids (NGL) transmission pipe to transport 272,750 barrels per day (BBL/d) of Utica/Marcellus ethane, butane, and propane. The Industrial Manufacturing Industry is looking at $1.05 billion in project kickoffs, including FedEx Corporation's (NYSE:FDX) (Memphis, Tennessee) $335 million mega-hub distribution center in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The first of two phases, the project involves constructing an 800,000-square-foot distribution building, as well as vehicle-maintenance, salt-storage and truck-wash buildings and off-site improvements, to support regional distribution. The Pharmaceutical & Biotech Industry has a not-too-shabby $925 million in projects set to begin construction, the largest being City University of New York's $225 million college research building in Bronx, New York. The second of a two-phase project, it involves expanding the facility from 70,000 to 230,000 square feet to accommodate the physics, earth science and environmental studies.
