Valero's Refining Segment Boasts Higher Second-Quarter Profit - For the second quarter of this year, Valero Energy Corporation's (San Antonio, Texas) refining segment reported quarterly operating income of $1.3 billion, up from last year's $1.2 billion, boosted by higher margins. Refining margin per barrel of throughput was up at $12.35 in the second quarter, compared with $11.14 from a year earlier, Valero said. U.S. Gas Producer CNX Boosts 2025 Output Estimate - CNX Resources (Canonsburg, Pennsylvania) said in its second quarter earnings that it plans to produce more natural gas this year than previously expected to meet growing demand while spending the same amount of money. CNX, which focuses primarily on gas, said it planned capital expenditures of $450 million-$500 million in 2025, the same as its first quarter outlook, to produce about 1.68-1.70 billion cubic feet of gas equivalent per day (Bcfe/d). That compares with the company's prior 2025 production guidance of 1.66-1.70 Bcfe/d in the first quarter. (Reuters)

CenterPoint Energy Ups Capex Plan - Electric and gas utility CenterPoint Energy (Houston, Texas) increased its 10-year capital spending plan by $500 million as it focuses on rising power demand, primarily in Texas, company executives said on Thursday. The company is in the process of selling its Ohio gas business and focusing on its Texas segment, executives said on an earnings call. If the sale is successful, Texas would make up about 70% of the company's portfolio. In the Houston area alone, CenterPoint expects a nearly 50% increase of peak electricity demand on the system by 2031. (Reuters)
