Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Cooperative-owned Western Consolidated Cooperative (Holloway, Minnesota) is constructing a new $10 million grain elevator and grain handling facility in Twin Brooks, South Dakota.
Currently, concrete is being poured for the multi-story elevator, under the direction of contractor SMA Elevator Construction Incorporated (Monticello, Minnesota). Construction is scheduled to continue for the next ten months. Once the facility becomes fully operational, around July or August of 2005, the elevator will have the capability of handling 17-18 million bushels of grain annually. A company spokesman said, Having the capability of loading 110 railcars in a matter of hours, WestCon will be able to take advantage of transportation cost incentives, which can be passed on to customers.
Western Consolidated Cooperative was formed as the result of a merger in 1983 between Appleton Farmers Elevator in Appleton, Holloway Market Company in Holloway, and Danvers Farmers Elevator, in Danvers, all located in west central Minnesota. The cooperative has since added locations in Sunburg, Minnesota (1996), Watson, Minnesota (1996), South Shore, South Dakota (1997), Graceville, Minnesota (1999), St. Leo, Minnesota (2000), Murdock, Minnesota (2002), Milbank, South Dakota (2003), and Kensington, Minnesota (2003).
