Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Wisconsin is filled with a variety of industrial projects, ranging from the most technologically savvy data centers to food and beverage projects. Industrial Info is tracking more than $3.7 billion worth of projects presently under construction in the state.

One of Wisconsin's largest projects comes in the aftermath of an incomplete larger project. Several years ago, Taiwanese company Foxconn (Taipei), obtained 2,500 acres of land to build a $10 billion manufacturing hub. Plans for the mega-project fell through for various reasons, leaving the site undeveloped. In 2023, Microsoft obtained a 315-acre portion of the site to build a data center capable of handling heavy artificial intelligence (AI) loads. The first phase of the project kicked off last year and entails constructing two 370,000-square-foot data center buildings that are expected to be operational in 2026. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Industrial Manufacturing Project Database can learn more by viewing the project report.

Data centers are very resource-hungry operations, but Microsoft is taking steps to lower the plant's environmental footprint by using recycled water in a closed-loop cooling system that requires no additional water after startup. In addition, Microsoft also has partnered with National Grid Renewables (Bloomington, Minnesota) to construct a 250-megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Wisconsin.

Other solar projects are presently under construction in the state, including renewable energy powerhouse Invenergy LLC's (Chicago, Illinois) 250-MW solar farm in Darien, about 55 miles southwest of Milwaukee. Engineering, procurement and construction company Blattner Energy Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota) is in the process of placing more than 450,000 solar panels as well as working on a 75-MW lithium-ion battery energy storage system for times when the sun isn't shining. Blattner is expected to complete the projects early next year. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the related project reports.

A much-loved Japanese product is finding a second home in Wisconsin after originally landing in the state more than 50 years ago. Kikkoman Foods Incorporated (Noda, Japan) manufactures the top-selling soy sauce for home use in the U.S. and is constructing a third U.S. manufacturing plant in Jefferson, Wisconsin, that will join its first U.S. plant in Walworth, Wisconsin, which begin shipping in 1973, and a second California plant that started operating in 1998. The new plant will be 240,000 square feet and will feature not only the manufacture of soy sauce but also other soy sauce products, such as teriyaki sauce. The project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2026. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Food & Beverage Project Database can learn more by viewing the project report.

The Pharmaceutical-Biotech Industry also makes a strong showing in the state. Among the state's top projects in this sector is one that broke ground this summer at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Clare for a new health and sciences building. Initial work involves demolishing two former residence halls. In their place will emerge a five-story, 330,000-square-foot Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified building that will be home to the university's health and science programs such as biology, chemistry and astronomy. The building is expected to be completed in the first half of 2027. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Pharmaceutical-Biotech Project Database can click here for more details on the project.

Several manufacturing projects are in the works, often involving smaller price tags. Charter Next Generation (Chicago) manufactures plastic films used for a broad range of sectors including food, lawn and garden, construction, e-commerce and personal care. Toward the start of this year, general contractor Keller Incorporated (Kaukauna, Wisconsin) broke ground on a grassroot manufacturing plant for Charter that will produce several of the company's polyethylene blown films. The project is expected to be completed in the second quarter of next year. Subscribers can click here to learn more about the project.
