Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction Company (ZTPC) (Hangzhou, Zhejiang), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), won Bid B for the main construction and erection of SDIC Qinzhou Power Generation Company Limited's (Qinzhou, Guangxi) 2,000-megawatt (MW) Qinzhou Power Plant expansion project on April 19, 2013, according to an announcement from the CEEC on May 2.

According to the notice of bid award, ZTPC will be responsible for the construction and erection of Unit 4; the erection of equipment in the circulating water pump room, the chlorine production room, piping works and access roads in the plant area; renovation of the ash disposal and coal-conveying systems; and the construction of a new coal stockpile field and associated coal-handling system.

The SDIC Qinzhou Power Plant, located at Qinzhou Port in Qinzhou City in Southwest China's Guangxi autonomous region, is jointly invested by SDIC Power Holdings Company Limited (SH.600886) (Beijing) (61%), the listed flagship of State Development & Investment Corporation (SDIC) (Beijing) in the power sector, and Guangxi Investment Group Company Limited (Nanning, Guangxi) (39%). The power plant currently has two 600-MW, coal-fired, supercritical units in operation. In September 2012, SDIC Power received preliminary approval from the National Energy Administration (NEA), with consent to kick off pre-stage preparation for the construction of two 1,000-MW, coal-fired, ultra-supercritical steam turbine generating units in Phase II.

Prior to the awarding of the main construction contract, SDIC Power awarded the supply of the main turbine, generator and boiler equipment required for the project to Shanghai Electric Corporation (Shanghai).

Presently, the project owner is working closely with Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute (Guangzhou, Guangdong), the project designer, and related parties for site preparation and detailed engineering of the project. According to the schedule, both units of the project will begin operations in 2015. However, the project is still subject to final approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the top planner in China.
