Forestal y Papelera Seeks Funds for 12-Megawatt Cogeneration Plant in Chile

Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Cordoba, Argentina)--Chilean paper and paperboard company Forestal y Papelera Concepcion (Coronel, Biobio, Chile) is seeking a joint venture partner to proceed with the building of a power plant that will utilize biomass (wood wastes, bark, shavings and sawdust) to generate 12 megawatts (MW) of electricity. The total investment in the project is estimated to be about $10 million.

The project seeks to install two steam turbines, a steam turbine generator, a BFW system, a cooling system, a condenser, tanks, a boiler, compressors, operator consoles, transformers, breakers, switchgear, pumps, pipes and motors. According to company officials, they already have two 6-megawatt (MW) steam turbines, but they still need to purchase a 60,000-pound boiler. If the company finds a joint venture partner, civil works are expected to begin in March 2012, and the power plant will be brought online during the first months of 2014. Biddings to contract services and purchase the remaining equipment needed for the construction of the plant are scheduled to begin in November 2011.
