Brazil to Open Bidding for Itaborai-Guapimirim Natural Gas Pipeline

Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Cordoba, Argentina)--Companies will be able to bid to construct a natural gas pipeline for the first time in Brazil, the country's hydrocarbons industry regulator announced recently.
The pipeline, which will connect the future Comperj refinery with the existing GASDUC III pipeline, is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2016. The project will require an investment of $42 million.
Agencia Nacional de Petroleo, Gas Natural e Biocombustiveis (ANP) (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Brazil's hydrocarbons regulator, said bidding for the Itaborai-Guapimirim pipeline will take place in June, and it will be the first one to be offered under this operation mode., Interested companies will be allowed to submit bid proposals until April, the ANP said. The contract would be signed in the second half of 2015. The project still needs to undergo public enquiry, which will taking place in February.
The pipeline project was developed by the Ministerio de Minas y Energia (MME) (Brasilia, Brasil) and Empresa de Pesquisa Energetica (EPE) (Rio de Janeiro, Brasil). The 24-inch wide pipeline will run 11 kilometers, and will be able to move as much as 17 million cubic meters per day. The pipe will connect to existing GASDUC III pipelines, to supply the future refinery with natural gas from the Cabiunas Natural Gas Processing Plant, located in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
