The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), acting under the Homeland Security Act of 2002, has created a list of critical infrastructure workers in 16 industry segments that should continue their duties through the COVID-19 pandemic. The list is not necessarily a directive, according to the agency, but is intended "to help state and local officials as they work to protect their communities, while ensuring continuity of functions critical to public health and safety, as well as economic and national security."
The list is meant to identify critical infrastructure industries with a "special responsibility" to continue operations throughout the pandemic response.
The list includes:
- Communications
- Chemicals
- Critical manufacturing
- Commercial facilities
- Dams
- Defense industrial bases
- Emergency services
- Energy
- Financial
- Food and Agriculture
- Government facilities
- Nuclear reactors, materials and waste
- Information technology
- Healthcare and public health
- Water
- Transportation systems
