AES Gener to Shut Down Laguna Verde Plant in December for Annual Maintenance

The plant is expected to be reconnected to Chile's National Grid on January 14.

The plant, which went into operation in 1990, is located in Laguna Verde, Valparaiso. It is equipped with two coal-fired steam turbines and one fuel-oil-fired 18-MW GE Energy MS5001 combustion turbine. The steam turbines were manufactured by AEG and Alstom SA (EPA:ALO) (Levallois-Perret, France).

In 2001, AES purchased Gener, which owned several power plants: Alfalfal, Queltehues, Maitenes, Volcan, Ventanas, Los Vientos and Laguna Verde.
