Aircraft Braking Systems Corporation Studies Sites for New Manufacturing Plant in Kentucky and Ohio

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated Houston, Texas). Aircraft Braking Systems Corporation (ABSC) (Akron, Ohio), an aerospace industry manufacturer, is currently looking at Danville, Kentucky, as a possible site for a new manufacturing plant to expand operations. The company is looking at a 28.8-acre site in the John Hill Bailey Industrial Park to build a plant that would manufacture carbon brake discs for the airline industry, as well as wheels, brakes, and related brake control systems.

The plant is expected to be approximately 45,000 square feet. The company plans to select a site the end of March 2005. The cost for the new plant is estimated to be roughly $32.6 million dollars, of which $10.8 million dollars is slated for building construction, while the remaining $21.8 million will be spent on new equipment. ABSC is considering two sites for the new plant, one in Danville, Kentucky, site and another site in Akron, Ohio. Once a site has been selected, a design-build firm will be selected to perform engineering and construction for the new plant. Construction is anticipated to begin in late summer 2005, with completion slated for June 2006.

Aircraft Braking Systems Corporation, headquartered in Akron, Ohio, is a leading manufacturer of wheels, brakes, brake control, and related systems for the commercial, military, and general aviation markets. The company supplies braking systems and components to its customers, who range from small aircraft operators to some of the world’s major airlines and aircraft manufacturers. ABSC’s main customers include Boeing, Lear, and Bombardier. The company was founded in 1929, when Goodyear developed an aircraft wheel to make the newly developed Goodyear “Airwheel,” one of the first pneumatic tires for aircraft.
