Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Site preparation is underway for Allegheny Energy's Harrison Power Station Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) rebuild on Unit #1. Construction is scheduled to be complete by June 2005.
The electrostatic precipitator was developed to reduce particulate emissions from power plants. It uses electrodes to give the fly ash found in flue gas emissions an electric charge that draws them to collection plates. The fly ash is then collected in a silo and sold as an ingredient in concrete. The electrostatic precipitator has a collection efficiency of up to ninety-nine percent.
Allegheny Energy Supply Company LLC (Monroeville, Pennsylvania) owns and operates the Harrison plant. It is the power production subsidiary of Allegheny Energy (NYSE:AYE ) (Greensburg, Pennsylvania). Other Allegheny Energy-owned plants in West Virginia are the 1,368-megawatt coal plant, Pleasants Power Station (Belmont, West Virginia) and the 1,152- megawatt Fort Martin Power Station (Maidsville, West Virginia).
