AltraBiofuels Commissioning Indiana Plant; Start-Up Expected by Mid- to Late March

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Investor-owned AltraBiofuels Incorporated (Los Angeles, California) and its wholly owned subsidiary Altra Indiana LLC (Cloverdale, Indiana) are going through the commissioning process at their Cloverdale ethanol plant and expect to be fully operational by mid- to late March 2008. Construction started on the project in October 2006, and construction activity is wrapping up about a month earlier than expected.

The nameplate 92 million-gallon-per-year plant will process more than 35 million bushels of corn into fuel ethanol. The plant utilizes Vogelbusch USA (Katy, Texas) licensed ethanol process technology and was built by FA Wilhelm Construction Company Incorporated (Indianapolis, Indiana).

The plant is located on 147 acres of land in Cloverdale roughly 40 miles west of Indianapolis. The plant is in a great location with access to Indiana's extensive dairy cow population for distillers grains and interstate highway and rail service for delivery of both feedstock and finished products.

Construction costs to build the plant are estimated to be in the $170 million range.

AltraBiofuels is looking to become a major player in domestic fuel ethanol production. The company already operates a 31.5 million-gallon-per-year plant in Goshen, California. Earlier this month, AltraBiofuels commissioned a new 60 million gallon per year plant in Coshocton, Ohio, and plans to build a 110 million plant in Marion, Ohio. Construction is expected to be completed this spring on a 113 million plant that is under construction in Carleton, Nebraska. Boardman, Oregon, has been pined as a possible plant location. Once all plants are operational, the company will have the capacity of producing more than 456 million gallons of ethanol annually.
