Aruba: NuCapital Curaçao to Construct 15-Megawatt Phase II Vader Piet Windfarm

Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Cordoba, Argentina)--NuCapital Curaçao (Willemstad, Curaçao) plans to construct the 15-megawatt (MW) Phase II Vader Piet Windfarm, located south of Oranjestad, Aruba.

Vader Piet has a generating capacity of 30 MW and began commercial operations in December 2009. The construction of the second phase will involve an investment of approximately $75 million and allows the addition of 15 MW to be delivered to the national grid.

The facility is equipped with 10 Vestas V90 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 3 MW. Based on preliminary engineering studies, NuCapital Curaçao plans to add five turbines that are similar to those installed in Phase I.

In 2012, NuCapital Curaçao expects to achieve environmental permits for the construction of Phase II and to launch a tender to select the major equipment supplier, which will be responsible for the supply of electromechanical equipment, installation and assembly of the wind generators. The construction is scheduled to start in February 2013.

NuCapital also owns the project for the construction of the second phase of Playa Kanoa windfarm in the Netherlands Antilles. The project is scheduled to be completed by May this year and will add 30 MW to the facility's production.
