Aspropyrgos Refinery in Greece Nears Major Overhaul

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Athens-based Hellenic Petroleum SA (ATH:ELPE), owner and operator of the 135,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Aspropyrgos refinery in the state of Attica, 15 kilometers from Athens, is in the final stages of preparation for a major overhaul, which is scheduled to begin by mid-September.

The overhaul, which is to last one month, is for the maintenance and cleaning of several processing units, such as the 85,000-BBL/d Crude 1, the 52,000-BBL/d Crude/Vacuum 2, the 45,700-BBL/d Fluid Catalytic Cracking 4100, the 27,000-BBL/d Continuous Catalytic Regenerator 3300, and the 10,100-BBL/d Total Isomerization unit, among others. Units are expected to be back online by the end of October.

Hellenic Petroleum owns and operates three refineries in Greece, in the cities of Aspropyrgos, Elefsina and Thessaloniki. Together, they produce 76% of the country's total refining capacity and process crudes from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Libya, Azerbaijan, Prinos, Kazakhstan and Russia. Hellenic Petroleum also operates in the South East Europe market.
