Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Perth, Australia)--Atlas Iron Limited (ASX:AGO) is one of the Western Australian Companies that, despite the current market disparities and economic fluctuation, continues to progress with various iron ore operations. Throughout 2013, the company will see the beginning of construction for one large project, whilst other projects in their portfolio will begin operations.
The company concentrates their efforts in the iron ore industry, specifically targeting the mining and exporting of direct shipping ore (DSO). The location where the company has established its activities is in the northwestern region of Western Australia, known as the Pilbara region and home to some of the largest deposits of iron ore discovered and capitalised on to date in Australia.
In a recent spate of activity, the company has announced that its focus has shifted within its Western Australian operations. The Abydos 3-million-tonne-per-annum (mtpa) DSO project has become operational in the recent months. The focus now is on its Mount Webber DSO Phase I project.
The development that the company will continue to work toward is the Mount Webber mine, which is another 3-mpta project. The project has recently commenced construction and mining activities. Upon successful completion of Phase I, the Mount Webber project will begin Phase II, which will be a duplication of the crushing and screening equipment to increase production to from 3 mtpa to 6 mtpa.
Collectively, the company has an impressive range of producing and developing mines. One of the mines most recently to come online is the Abydos mine, along with the Pardoo, Wodgina and Mount Dove mines.
From the current mining activities, the company's production will be further increased over the coming years. Export logistics are expected to increase from the approximately 9 million tonnes per annum currently, to a total of 15 mtpa by 2015. This will meet the current capacity of the company's associated port.
During August, Atlas Iron presented at the Kalgoorlie Diggers and Dealers Exhibition. The core theme of its presentation is the accomplishment of developing five mines in five years, which is a tremendous feat for any company within the industrial sector.
