Researched by Industrial Info Resources Australia (Perth, Australia)--Electricity Generation and Retail Corporation (EGRC), trading as Synergy (Perth, Australia), is planning a four-week maintenance inspection on two units at its Pinjar Power Station in Pinjar, Western Australia. The maintenance is scheduled to begin by early August 2014 and take three to four weeks.
Maintenance will be conducted on two units at the Kangaroo Hydro Station. It will include minor inspection and repairs on one unit and a hot-gas path inspection on the other.
Minor inspection and repairs will be performed on Unit 4, a 38-megawatt (MW) natural gas combustion turbine. It will include work on the turbine, generator and balance-of-plant equipment, and will last longer than the usual three weeks.
Maintenance also will be performed on Unit 9, a 116-MW, heavy-frame natural gas turbine; the scope of work includes major maintenance on the engine, including a hot-gas path inspection.
Located 15 kilometers north of Wanneroo in Pinjar, Western Australia, the 584-megawatt (MW) Pinjar Power Station is equipped with nine heavy-frame GE gas combustion turbines, six of which are 38-MW MS6001B GE machines. The remaining three are MS9001E GE machines with capacities of 116 MW, 116 MW and 123 MW. The first units were installed in 1989, and the rest were added in later years.
The power station primarily uses gas, but it also can burn liquid distillate fuel at times of gas shortage. It is connected to the Dampier-Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline.
Apart from the maintenance shutdown of the above mentioned two units in August 2014, Synergy recently completed a hot-gas path inspection on the 38-MW Unit 6, which lasted about four weeks, running from March to April 2014.
Pinjar Power Station was owned by Verve Energy, a Western Australian government-owned corporation responsible for state electricity generation. The Western Australian government announced a merger of Synergy and Verve Energy effective January 1, 2014. In addition to providing about 80% of the South West's electricity needs, Synergy now owns and operates an extensive and diverse portfolio of major power stations, such as Muja, Kwinana, Cockburn, Collie and Kemerton, among other small power stations.
