Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Brazil's agrochemical sector has expanded and is expected to further grow with the materialization of high investments within the next two years. This is being driven not only by the country's internal need to provide fertilizers for its big agricultural market, but also because of the impact of the Ukrainian conflict.
Industrial Info Resources is tracking more than 100 capital-spending projects in Brazil's agrochemical sector, worth US$1.34 billion, mostly directed to increase the production capacity of fertilizers. Of this, 27 projects worth more than US$800 million are for grassroot construction. The majority of the total investment is located in the rural states of Distrito Federal, Maranhao and Minas Gerais. More than US$400 million worth have already been approved, while another US$685 million is expected to be approved in the next 12 months.
The largest undertaking is Indian Farmers Fertilizers Cooperative Limited's (New Delhi) grassroot, US$300 million Nano Urea plant in Brasilia, which is expected to start operations in 2024. Click here for the project report.
Cibrafertil's (Salvador) grassroot, US$250 million nitrogen, phosphate and potash (NPK) fertilizers plant in Sao Luis, Maranhao, is in the planning stage; EuroChem Fertilizantes Tocantins is investing US$220 million to increase the NPK fertilizers capacity by 20% at its Serra do Salitre Plant in Minas Gerais.
