Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Sucral Engenharia e Processos Ltda. (Piracicaba, Brazil) is planning to construct three fuel ethanol-producing facilities through its subsidiary Sucral Bioenergia SA (Piracicaba), 50% of which is owned by the company and the other half by private investors. The objective is to inaugurate one plant per year, starting in April 2012.
The plants, each of which will require an investment of $255 million, are to be constructed in the Mato Grosso do Sul state in Southern Brazil, in the cities of Chapadao do Sul, Selviria and Inocencia. Sucral Engenharia e Processos is to manage the projects; the company will perform the engineering and procurement, and will contract a constructor company. The company also will operate the plants once they are ready. Each of the three facilities is designed to process 3 million tons of sugarcane per year and yield about 70 million gallons of fuel ethanol. The company plans to produce electric power through bagasse burning; 75 megawatts (MW) are to be cogenerated at each plant, 15 MW of which will be used to power the plant's operations, and the remaining 60 MW to be sold to the national grid.
The construction time for each plant is estimated to be 20 months. The first facility to be inaugurated will be the one located in Selviria, which is scheduled to begin crushing cane in April 2012. The other inaugurations are expected to be in April 2013 and April 2014, in the cities of Inocencia and Chapadao do Sul, respectively. The agricultural development is already being carried out in each site.
Sucral Engenharia e Processos Ltda. has been acting as a consultant, engineer and project developer in the Brazilian sugar and ethanol industry since 1968. The company's expertise ranges from agricultural development of sugarcane fields to the industrial set-up and operation of sugar, ethanol and power production equipment.
