Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Yguazu Cementos S.A. (Asuncion, Paraguay), a joint venture owned 35% by Camargo Correa Cimentos S.A. (Sao Paulo, Brazil), 35% by Votorantim Cimentos S.A. (Sao Paulo), and 30% by Concret-Mix S.A. (Asuncion), is close to beginning construction of a cement plant in Paraguay. The Tupi plant will be located in the city of Villa Hayes, 30 kilometers north of Asuncion, Paraguay's capital, on the bank of Paraguay River.
Camargo Correa will manage and operate the 400,000-ton-per-year plant. Some infrastructure works already have begun on the plant site. Civil works are expected to start by the end of this year. Camargo Correa already has hired a constructor on a turnkey basis, whose name will be announced in the coming weeks. Construction is expected to last 30 months, with project completion set for April 2012. The investment announced for the project reaches $100 million.
The cement division of Camargo Correa Group (Sao Paulo) has seven operational cement plants in Brazil and nine operational plants in Argentina. Together, the plants have an annual capacity to produce 9 million tons of cement. Votorantim Cimentos is leader in the Brazilian cement market and one of the largest cement producers in the world, with operations in Brazil, Canada and the United States. Concret-Mix is a Paraguayan constructor firm, a leader in the local market.
