Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Brazilian investment group Central Termoelectrica Sul (CTSul) could soon receive a construction and installation permit for the 650-megawatt (MW) Cachoeira Do Sul coal-fired power plant by environmental regulator Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente (Ibama). CTSul submitted the documents in July of this year and expects to receive the permit by year's end.
The project entails the construction of a 650-MW, coal-fired power-generating plant in Cachoeira Do Sul, Rio Grande Do Sul State, which will be equipped with six hydraulic turbines with individual capacities of 108 MW.
Civil construction will be carried out by engineering firm Camargo Correa (Sao Paulo, Brazil), and China's National Machinery & Equipment Import & Export (Beijing) will supply the major equipment, such as turbines and generators.
Upon approval, construction could begin in the first quarter of 2010, with completion set for the end of 2012.
CTSul plans to invest about $900 million in the project.
