Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 1,065-megawatt (MW) Unit 1 at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Power Station, which is owned by Tennessee Valley Authority (NYSE:TVC) (Knoxville, Tennessee), has extended it maintenance outage. The station is in Decatur, Alabama.
Plant officials said that the unit was shut down for a normal maintenance refueling on October 22, as well as a valve problem and a few other issues. They will need to perform additional repairs before the unit is ready to return online. Plant officials said that the repairs will extend the outage another week, and they hope to have the unit online the day before Thanksgiving.
The plant has three generating units, with a total generating capacity of 3,297 megawatts when at full load. Unit 1 began operating in 1975, Unit 2 in 2007, and Unit 3 in 1977.
