Brunswick Nuclear Unit Offline Due to Transformer Issue
The Brunswick power station consists of two reactor units generating 1,875 megawatts of electricity, sufficient to power one million homes.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). A unit at the Brunswick Nuclear Station went offline last week due to a malfunction in the start-up auxiliary transformer. The power stations Unit 02, which has a maximum capacity of 895 megawatts, was brought down safely on November 1, 2006. Maintenance crews have been working to restore the transformer and officials are estimating that the unit will resume power on November 9, 2006. The Brunswick Nuclear Station is owned jointly by Progress Energy (NYSE:PGN ) and the North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency. Progress owns 81% while the North Carolina Municipal Power Agency claims the remaining 19% stake in the power plant.
