Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Brazilian energy regulatory agency ANEEL recently authorized the start of commercial operation of the Camaçari Muricy I fossil-fueled power plant, located within Camaçari's petrochemical complex, approximately 26 miles northeast from Salvador de Bahia, Brazil. The facility will be operational from September 30 through December 31, 2009, when generation will be discontinued.
Ellocin Brasil Participações e Consultoria Empresarial (Ellobrás) (Santana de Parnaíba, Brazil) together with multinational energy company Petróleo Brasileiro (NYSE:PBR) (Petrobras) (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) are the owners of the new power plant. Their respective shares 51% and 49% of the total capital investment.
Camaçari Muricy I's equipments consist of eight sets of Man Diesel engines and generators, each with an 18.5-megawatt output capacity. This means that the new plant will be producing 148 megawatt-hours when all generating units are fully operational. Fuel will be easily available for Camaçari Muricy I, as it will be supplied directly from the refining companies within the same petrochemical complex.
