Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--By the end of 2007, the total installed capacity of central China's Hubei Province reached 37.08 million kilowatts (kW) of which clean energy, including wind power and hydropower, increased 3.6 percentage points year over year to make up about 65%, according to the Economic Commission of Hubei.
In September 2007, the Jiugongshan windfarm, the first windfarm in Hubei, went into operation. The windfarm has a total planned capacity of 156 megawatts (MW). So far, 16 850-kW wind-generating units have been put into commercial operation.
In 2007, seven 700-MW hydraulic turbine generating units and one 460-MW hydropower unit were put into operation in the Three Gorges project and the Shuibuya project, respectively. By the end of the year, the total installed capacity of hydropower reached 24.02 million kW in Hubei, accounting for 64.78% of the total installed capacity in the province.
About 603 MW of small thermal power units were terminated for the purpose of energy conservation and emissions reduction. The installed capacity of large thermal power units with single-unit capacities of 300 MW or higher reached 9.3 million KW in Hubei, accounting for 71.29% of the total installed capacity of thermal power in the province. The average coal consumption for thermal power further decreased, said a person in charge of the Economic Commission.
