Summary
With a decade of LNG exports under its belt, Cheniere Energy is still going strong. With 5,000 shipments, it's continuing to broker supply-side arrangements in the global economy.Sale Agreement Brokered with Taiwan's CPC
U.S.-based liquefied natural gas (LNG) producer Cheniere Energy said Thursday it signed a long-term supply agreement with Taiwan's state-owned oil and gas company, days after marking 10 years as an exporter.Cheniere said Taiwan's CPC Corporation agreed to purchase up to 1.2 million tons per annum (MTPA) of LNG through 2050. Cheniere said the supply agreement builds on a 2018 arrangement with CPC for 2 MTPA over a 25-year period.
"We look forward to providing our secure and reliable LNG to CPC into the second half of this century under this new long-term agreement," said Jack Fusco, Cheniere's president and chief executive officer.
Taiwan accounted for only 3% of total U.S. LNG exports over the six-month period to November 2025, according to U.S. federal data.
U.S. exports of LNG to Asia are burdened by the long routes from Gulf Coast facilities, though Japanese energy company JERA has a deal for 1 MPTA of LNG per year from Cheniere from 2029 through 2050.
10 Years Gone
On Tuesday, Cheniere marked the 10-year anniversary of the first LNG exports from its Sabine Pass facility in Louisiana, currently the largest U.S. plant of its kind. The facility has a peak design capacity of 4.9 MTPA.Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Oil & Gas Plant Database can learn more about Sabine Pass--including capacities, investment values and necessary equipment--in a detailed plant profile.
"A decade ago, we started something transformative--producing and exporting LNG at scale from the U.S. Gulf Coast," Fusco said. "10 years and nearly 5,000 cargoes later, we continue to lead the way, and our commitment to safety, our people, customers and communities is stronger than ever."
Cheniere helped establish the U.S. as the world leader in LNG exports, with both its Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi, Texas, export facilities. In December, the company filed a federal application to expand its Corpus Christi facility.

The company said its LNG production set a record last year and more than 670 vessels laden with its LNG left port.
Net revenue for Cheniere was $5.45 billion over the three-month period ending December 31, some 23% higher than during the same period last year. Net income of $2.3 billion was a 136% increase 2024 levels. The gains were attributed to higher export volumes.
The company said its two LNG facilities represent $50 billion in investments. By the mid-2030s, expansion projects could put its LNG export capacity above 100 MTPA.
By the Numbers
- 100 MTPA expected from Cheniere by mid 2030s
- 136% year-on-year increase in net revenue
- $50 billion in U.S. LNG investments
In a filing with U.S. federal regulators, Energy Transfer Partners said it was open to discussing opportunities for a third party to take over development of the Lake Charles LNG facility in Louisiana after it failed to secure adequate funding. Lake Charles would have a nameplate capacity of 5.5 MTPA, rivalling existing volumes from Sabine Pass.
Another facility in Alaska would require hundreds of miles of natural gas pipeline before liquefaction operations could begin. Glenfarne, the project developer, is relying on South Korean-sourced steel. The recent Supreme Court decision on tariffs could upend U.S. trade agreements with Seoul.
Key Takeaways
- U.S. LNG leader Cheniere is planning for more success.
- Ten years after its first shipment, the company plans for expansions.
- Sabine Pass is the largest LNG terminal by volume.
