Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Chilean Pulp, Paper & Wood company CMPC (Santiago, Chile) has scheduled an annual maintenance shutdown in August 2010 for its pulp and paper mill in the city of Guaiba. The shutdown is expected to begin on August 15 and to continue through August 31 with an estimated cost of $4.4 million.
Tenders will be opened for industrial contractors and suppliers for various maintenance, repair, and inspection services in July 2010. During the shutdown period, repairs and equipment replacements will take place throughout various production areas of the mill.
The Guaiba mill is composed of a drum debarker and chipper, a continuous digester, two paper machines, a combination oil- and bark-fueled boiler, a recovery boiler, electrical generation units, and primary, secondary and tertiary treatment of effluent systems.
The mill began operations in 1971 and has an annual production capacity of 450,000 tons of kraft softwood unbleached pulp and 60,000 tons of paper. At present, approximately 500 people work at the mill.
CMPC produces and commercializes wood, pulp, tissue, paper and paper products. Located in Santiago de Chile, the company has more than 20 operating mills in various Latin American countries and it exports products to all five continents.
