Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--China's National Energy Administration has given preliminary approval for the kick-off the 700-megawatt (MW), coal-fired cogeneration project at the Aksu Textile Industrial Park.
Zheneng Group Xinjiang Akesu Energy Development Company Limited (Aksu, Xinjiang) was given the go-head to begin pre-stage preparations for the project, according to an announcement from Zhejiang Provincial Energy Group Company Limited (Zheneng Group) (Hangzhou, Zhejiang) on February 17.
The Aksu Textile Industrial Park Cogeneration Power Project is one of the key projects supported by the government of the Zhejiang province in Xinjiang, and is the first large-scale cogeneration power project to be built by Zheneng Group in the Aksu region. The project is funded by Zhejiang Zheneng Electric Power Company Limited (SH.600023) (Hangzhou, Zhejiang), a listed subsidiary of Zheneng Group, which was established as a result of the 2013 reorganization of the former Zhejiang Southeast Electric Power Company Limited (Hangzhou, Zhejiang).
The project will include two supercritical, pulverized coal-fired boilers to support two 350-MW air-cooling steam turbine generators, together with an associated special railway, high-efficiency flue gas desulfurization devices, nitrogen oxide control and dust control devices, and facilities to provide combined heat and power services to industrial users in Aksu Textile Industrial City. Total investment in the project will be about $495 million.
The project received approval from the Development and Reform Commission of Xinjiang Autonomous Region to begin pre-stage preparations on August 27, 2012. In January 2013, the experimental piling works kicked off. Northwest Electric Power Design Institute (Xian, Shaanxi), a regional subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consulting Corporation (CPECC) (Beijing), is responsible for the survey and engineering of the project. According to the schedule, construction will kick off in March 2014, and both units will begin operations in 2015.
Zheneng Group is one of the top 10 thermal power producers in China. As of the end of 2012, the group owned a total attributable installed capacity of 17.18 gigawatts.
