Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Northwest Electric Power Design Institute (NWEPDI) (Xi'an, Shaanxi), a subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consultancy Corporation (CPECC) (Beijing), recently won the bid for the survey and engineering services for Zhejiang Provincial Energy Group Company Limited's (Hangzhou, Zhejiang) 700-megawatt (MW) Akesu cogeneration power project, according to an announcement from the CPECC on February 20, 2013.
The Zhejiang Energy Group Akesu Cogeneration Power Project, located in Akesu Textile Industrial City, is one of the key power source projects to be built in Xinjiang with the support of eastern China's Zhejiang province. The project is also the first thermal power cooperation project between the NWEPDI and Zhejiang Energy Group. Two 350-MW, supercritical air-cooling extraction and condensing units for a combined heat and power supply will be built in the initial stage, with a total investment of about $495 million. According to plans, the project will be furnished with flue gas desulfurization and denitration devices and a special railway, and has space reserved for future expansion.
As reported, the project will be invested and operated by Zhejiang Southeast Electric Power Company Limited (Dongdian) (Hangzhou, Zhejiang), the listed flagship of Zhejiang Energy Group. Dongdian Xinjiang Akesu Energy Development Company Limited (Akesu, Xinjiang), a fully owned subsidiary of Dongdian, was established upon the approval of the board of directors in November 2012.
The project received approval to kick off pre-stage preparation on August 27, 2012. According to the schedule, construction of the project will kick off later this year, and both units of the project will be put into operation in 2015.
Following the implementation of the nation's strategic development program in Xinjiang, the social power consumption in Xinjiang has been growing rapidly. A quality national grain and cotton plantation base, Akesu also is rich in coal and natural gas resources. Construction of the cogeneration project for the textile industrial city could well meet the increasing local power and heat demand.
