Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--China Datang Corporation (Beijing); Datang Huayin Electric Power Company Limited (DHEPC) (Changsha, Hunan) (SHA:600744), a listed public company under the control of China Datang Corporation; and Dongguan City Power & Chemical Industry Group Limited (DPCIG) (Guangdong, China) signed a joint venture agreement regarding the construction of two 1,000-megawatt (MW) coal-fired units in Dongguan city in the Guangdong province at the 2009 Dongguan (Hangzhou) Investment Promotion Fair in Hangzhou on September 25. Official signing of the agreement signifies that the pre-stage preparation for the project will kick off shortly.
Yan Zhang, vice director of the Planning & Development Department of China Datang Corporation; Yuan Wei, general manager of DHEPC; and Wei You, president and CEO of DPCIG, signed the agreement on behalf of the parties.
The proposed power plant is located in Shatian town in Dongguan city, an emerging industrial city in southern China's Guangdong province. The project will involve replacing smaller, less efficient units with larger, more efficient ones. "DHEPC's involvement in the project shows action in response to the nation's policy on energy conservation and emissions reduction," said Yuan Wei at the signing ceremony. DHEPC will work with China Datang Corporation and DPCIG to accelerate the pre-stage preparation of the project. The companies will attempt to get the project approved and begin construction as soon as possible.
According to the agreement, DHEPC, China Datang Corporation, and DPCIG will build the two 1,000-MW coal-fired units in respective proportions of 40%, 30% and 30%. Total investment in the project will be about $1.27 billion. Upon completion, the facility will be able to meet about one quarter of the power demand in Dongguan city.
