Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The groundbreaking ceremony for the Tianjin Chentangzhuang Thermal Power Plant Alternative Energy Relocation Project, the largest gas-fired cogeneration project in China, was held in northern China's Tianjin City on April 25, 2011, according to a recent announcement by the Development and Reform Commission of Tianjin.
Chentangzhuang Thermal Power Plant has long been a major heat supplier for residents and enterprises in the Hexi and Heping districts of Tianjin City. The site of the original coal-fired power plant is being developed into a downtown area in Tianjin. In order to further expand the city development space, the municipal government of Tianjin decided to relocate the power plant, and replace the original with a gas-fired cogeneration power plant.
The proposed gas-fired cogeneration power plant is the first of its kind in Tianjin. Plans include six sets of 900-megawatt (MW), combined-cycle cogeneration units, each comprising two 9F-class gas-fired turbines and one waste-heat steam turbine in two phases. In the current stage, two sets of 900-MW, combined-cycle cogeneration units--namely, four 9F-class gas-fired turbines plus two waste heat steam turbines--and flue gas denitration (Nox control) devices will be built. Upon completion, the project is expected to generate about 8.3 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity every year and supply heat for a total area of 24 million square meters, including 17 million square meters in the downtown area and 7 million square meters in four suburban districts of Tianjin. Compared with conventional coal-fired units, the project could reduce the emission of sulfur carbon dioxide by 3,500 metric tons; nitrous oxide by 4,688 metric tons; and soot by 1,100 metric tons every year.
As reported, the project will be built and operated by Tianjin Chentang Thermoelectricity Company Limited (Tianjin), a subsidiary of Tianjin Jinneng Investment Company (Tianjin). According to the schedule, construction will begin on the main works in September this year, and both units will begin operation by the end of 2013.
