China Huadian Corporation Completes Two Thermal Power Projects

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Unit 2 of Huadian Suzhou power plant's Phase I project went into commercial operation on November 10, 2007, after passing its 168-hour full-load trial in central China's Anhui Province. The achievement marks that Huadian Suzhou, a subsidiary of China Huadian Corporation (Beijing), achieved its objective of putting 10,000 megawatts (MW) in new units into operation in 2007 ahead of schedule.

The plant is furnished with two 600-MW supercritical coal-fired units in Phase I. The National Development and Reform Commission approved the project in March 2005, And construction officially began on May 28, 2005. Unit 1 of Phase I was successfully put into official operation in September 2007.

As part of the 11th five-year plan (2006-10) the project's completion has important meaning on improving the local grid structure, promoting local economic development, and in boosting the implementation of China's strategy of power transmission from Anhui to eastern China.

Less than one week later, Unit 7 of the Huadian Xunjiansi power plant also went into commercial operation after passing its full-load trial operation. Huadian Xunjiansi is in southwestern China's Yunnan Province. The achievement marked the completion of the plant's 600-MW expansion project.

Huadian Xunjiansi is a pithead power plant initially built in 1979 with four 25-MW units. Construction of the expansion project began in December 2003. The was included two 300-MW circulate fluidized-bed coal-fired units and was built by Yunnan Huadian Xunjiansi Power Generation Company (Yunnan) to replace smaller units. Unit 6 was successfully put into official operation in January 2007.
