Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The signing ceremony of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the nuclear island of Shandong Shidaowan Nuclear Power Station, a key demonstrative nuclear power project based on a high temperature gas-cooled reactor, was held in Beijing on October 7.
During the signing ceremony, Huaneng Shandong Shidaowan Nuclear Power Company Limited (HSSNPC) (Rongcheng, Shandong), the owner of the Shidaowan Demonstrative Nuclear Power Project, signed the EPC framework agreement for the nuclear island with China Nuclear Energy Technology Company Limited (Beijing), and the Nuclear Energy & New Energy Technology Research Institute of Tsinghua University. HSSNPC also signed supply contracts for major equipment with eight nuclear power equipment manufacturers in China, including Shanghai Electric Group Corporation Limited (Shanghai) and Harbin Power Equipment Corporation (Harbin).
The high temperature gas-cooled reactor is a new type of advanced nuclear power reactor with inherent advantages in safety, simplicity and efficiency. Construction of the demonstrative project has important strategic meaning for promoting the advance in nuclear power technology, accelerating the localization process of nuclear power, and achieving sustainable energy development.
Huaneng Shidaowan Nuclear Power Station is to be furnished with two 200-megawatt (MW) high-temperature gas-cooled reactors developed by Tsinghua University based on its 10-MW experimental high-temperature gas-cooled reactor technology. HSSNPC is a subsidiary of China Huaneng Group (Beijing) established together with China Nuclear Engineering Construction Corporation (CNECC) (Beijing) and Tsinghua Holdings Company Limited (Beijing) in January 2007. According to the schedule, one 200-MW unit will be built in Phase I, which is expected to start construction officially in September 2009 and to begin operation in 2013.
