China National Nuclear Completes Dome Erection for Reactor 4 at Qinshan Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) (Beijing) has finished erecting a dome for a powerhouse safety hull of the Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant's Reactor 4 as part of a Phase II expansion project. The project now moves forward from the civil construction phase, making it the first of such projects to do so during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan period (2006-10).

China Nuclear Engineering Group Corporation (Beijing) is the project's contractor, and CNNC Qinshan Joint Venture Company Limited (Zhejiang), a subsidiary of CNNC, is the owner of the project.

Construction has been progressing smoothly since it began in April 2006. So far, 552 procurement contracts have been awarded, accounting for 90% of the total. The localization rate has reached 70%, said Yang Lanhe, general manager of the joint-venture company.

Qinshan II is the first large commercialized nuclear power project in China. Construction is currently running three months ahead of schedule, meaning it's one of the short civil-work construction time frames ever in China. The project is expected to go into full operation by the end of 2011. By that time, the total installed capacity of all four units in Qinshan II will reach 2,600 megawatts with an annual power output of 18 billion-20 billion kilowatt-hours. Qinshan I, II and III will form the largest nuclear power base in China.
