China OK’s Tianjin Integrated Power Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Tianjin Guotou Jinneng Power Company, affiliated to China State Development and Investment Corporation (SDIC), will build an integrated power plant in China's Tianjin City. With total investment of $1.6 billion, the project involves power generation, wastewater treatment, seawater desalination, and a salt evaporation plant. The new factory will be constructed in Tianjin’s Binhai New Industrial Zone by the Bohai Sea.

According to plan, the coal-fired power plant will generate 11 billion kWh of electricity yearly, with two 1,000 MW ultra supercritical thermal power generator sets.

All the fresh water needed for power generation for the project will come from seawater desalination equipment, which can produce 65.7 million tons of fresh water yearly. Concentrated salt water from seawater desalination equipment will be evaporated to produce 450,000 tons per year of salt.

The project will also make the most of waste material from power generation to produce construction materials, as well as 60,000 tons of bromine, potassium chloride, magnesium chloride and magnesium sulfate, which are in short supply.

Tianjin Guotou Jinneng Power Company affiliated to China State Development and Investment Corporation (SDIC) is in charge of the project’s construction and management. According plan, the project will put into production in 2010.

SDIC (Beijing, China) is a state-owned investment holding company established on May 5, 1995 with capital contributed by the central government. Its registered capital is $2.06 billion. By the end of 2005, SDIC's gross assets were valued at $12.23 billion, making it China's largest state-owned investment holding company.

SDIC's industrial investment mainly goes for electric power, coal, ports and shipping, chemical fertilizer and other basic or resource-oriented fields as well as high-tech projects. Wang Huisheng is President (legal representative) of SDIC.
