China's Cement Output up 2.4% in January-February 2014, Growth Rate Slows
China's cement output for the first two months of 2014 reached 240.52 million metric tons, an increase of 2.4% from the same period last year, but the growth rate was 8.4 percentage points lower.

The growth was 8.4 percentage points lower than the same period of last year. The output of flat glass reached 126.59 million weight boxes, an increase of 5.6% from the same period last year. Flat-glass growth was 1.5 percentage points lower than the same period of last year, according to the Operation Report on Building Materials Industry issued by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on April 1.
Regionally, cement output in Shaanxi, Ningxia and Liaoning grew 28.71%, 19.18% and 17.90% respectively. The three regions ranked at the top in the country. Cement output fell in nearly half of China's provinces. Cement output in Tibet and Heilongjiang dropped 60.51% and 27.20%, respectively.
Cement and flat-glass prices have shown stability. In February, the average ex-work price of cement from key building material enterprises reached $57.09 per metric ton, a slight increase of $0.04 per metric ton compared with the price in December, and an increase of $2.99 per metric over February, 2013. The average ex-work price for flat glass reached $10.25 per weight box, a drop of $0.02 from the price in December, and a drop of $0.42 from February, 2013. As of the end of February, the stockpile of cement in key building material enterprises reached 18.08 million metric tons, an increase of 7.7% from the same period last year. Flat-glass stockpiles reached 54.84 million weight boxes, an increase of 7.5% over the same period last year.
As the largest building materials producer in the world, China's cement output reached 2.41 billion metric tons in 2013, an increase of 9.6%. Flat-glass output reached 780 million weight boxes, an increase of 11.2%.
