China's First Offshore Windfarm Project Approved for Construction

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 100-megawatt (MW) Shanghai Donghai Bridge windfarm project's feasibility study was approved in late October 2007 at a meeting held in Shanghai under the organization of the Electric Power Planning & Engineering Institute (EPPEI) (Beijing). Experts and representatives from the National Development and Reform Commission, the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, related departments of Shanghai, as well as design institutes and investors attended.
The bridge is in eastern Shanghai. The wind-power units will be east of the Donghai Bridge, which is 8 kilometers south of the coast but also 13 kilometers north of the coast. The water depth around the bridge is 9.8-10.3 meters.
The meeting was chaired by Wang Minhao, Vice President of the EPPEI. During the meeting, the Shanghai Investigation, Design and Research Institute (Shanghai) introduced the report.
Shanghai Donghai Bridge Windfarm Project, as the first offshore windfarm project in China, will be important for future offshore wind-power development, Shi Lishan, director of the Renewable Energy Division NDRC's Energy Bureau said at the meeting.
The project will be built and operated by Shanghai Donghai Wind Power Generation Company Limited (Shanghai), a company jointly invested by China Datang Corporation (Beijing), China Guangdong Nuclear Wind Power Company Limited (Beijing), China Power New Energy (Shanghai) Holdings Company Limited (Shanghai) and Shanghai Green Energy & Environment Protection Company Limited (Shanghai).
