Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The Hami prefecture in northwestern China's Xinjiang autonomous region will invest $1.34 billion this year for 13 large-scale coal mines with a combined production capacity of 70 million metric tons per year.
The mines include SDIC Hami Energy Development Company Limited's (Hami, Xinjiang) Dananhu No.1 Underground (U-G) Coal Mine, Xinjiang Guanghui Energy Company Limited's (Urmuqi, Xinjiang) Baishihu Open-Pit Coal Mine, Xukuang Hami Energy Company Limited's (Hami, Xinjiang) Dananhu No.1 U-G Coal Mine, and China Shenhua Energy Company Limited's (Beijing) Dananhu Coal Mine Expansion Project, according to the Development and Reform Commission of Hami City.
The Hami prefecture is located in the coal-rich eastern part of the Xinjiang region. Hami's estimated coal reserves amount to 570 billion metric tons, accounting for about 12.5% of the total reserves in China.
The Dananhu Mining Zone covers 479 square kilometers, with 14.7 billion metric tons in coal reserves. As one of the key mining zones in Hami and the main power source for the nation's program to transmit power to central China, the mining zone has seven coal mines with a combined capacity of 52 million metric tons per year.
The SDIC Hami Dananhu Coal Mine project, located in the western part of the Dananhu Mining Zone, has proven reserves of 2.5 billion metric tons and a planned production capacity of 12 million metric tons per year. The project kicked off in 2011. The coal mine and its 1,320-megawatt (MW) power plant are expected to begin operations later this year.
"As an integrated coal and power complex, the coal produced from the mine is directly transferred to the power plant via enclosed belt conveyors, which not only saves costs, but also eliminate the environmental pollution," said Gao Yun, the assistant general manager of SDIC Hami.
All of the mining projects will begin operations by the end of China's five-year plan for 2011-15, or at the start of the subsequent plan for 2016-20. The projects will provide coal to a large power base in Hami.
