China's Investment in Power Generation Projects Reaches $34 Billion from January to September 2010

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--In September 2010, China's overall power consumption reached 349.8 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), a drop of 12% from August, according to the monthly report published by China Electricity Council on October 25.

Power consumption in the primary industries (agriculture, farming, forestry, fisheries, etc.) reached 76.6 billion kWh; that of the second industries (mining, manufacturing, supply of water, electricity and gas, etc.) reached 2.3 trillion kWh. The third industries (insurance, hotels, services, etc.) consumed 339.8 billion kWh. Urban domestic consumption was 388.1 billion kWh.
From January through September 2010, the national generation output of power plants with outputs above 6 megawatts (MW) reached 3.09 trillion kWh, an increase of 16.1% year over year. Of which, the output of hydropower reached 499.8 billion kWh, an increase of 13.4% year over year; that of thermal power reached 2.48 trillion kWh, an increase of 16.3% year over year. Nuclear power reached 52.7 billion kWh, an increase of 2.1% year over year.
As of the end of September 2010, the total installed capacity of power plants with capacities of 6 MW or above reached 885.12 gigawatts (GW), an increase of 10.5% year-on-year. Of which, installed capacity of hydropower, thermal power, nuclear power and wind power reached 176.96 GW, 674.44 GW, 10.17 GW and 23.44 GW, respectively, representing respective year-over-year increases of 13.4%, 8.4%, 12.0% and 77.2%.
From January through September 2010, the average accumulated utilization hours of power generation equipment in China reached 3,540 hours, an increase of 197 hours year over year. Of which, the average utilization hours of hydropower equipment reached 2,660 hours, a drop of 11 hours, and the average utilization hour of thermal power equipment reached 3,802 hours, an increase of 290 hours year over year.
From January through September 2010, China's investment in power generating projects reached $34 billion, including $6.86 billion for hydropower, $12.77 billion for thermal power, $6.36 billion for nuclear power and $7.86 billion for wind power. Total investment in grid construction reached $29.08 billion.
