Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--CHS North America (St. Paul, Minnesota) is investing more than $175 million in more than a dozen capital projects to build new grain-handling and storage facilities and to expand the capacities of existing facilities. Projects range in investment value from $1 million to $50 million and include grain elevator storage capacity expansions, several train shuttle loading facilities, and the expansion of a large terminal in Washington. While some of the projects are still in the development phase, construction is under way at five sites, and the latest project is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2014.
One example of CHS's expansion plans is the construction of a new, $20 million grain terminal and rail spur in North Dakota. The terminal is planned to have a 1.6 million-bushel capacity and is to be capable of loading 110-car shuttle trains (340,000 bushels). Construction began last year, and it is scheduled to be brought online this fall.
In Nebraska, CHS will expand the storage capacity at three elevators and build a train shuttle loading facility.
