The plant, located about 100 miles east of Charlotte in the small town of Dundarrach, will be a dry mill plant with the capacity of producing 55 million gallons of ethanol annually. Some 20 million bushels of corn will be processed annually and liquid CO2 will be produced as a by-product, as well as distillers dried grains.
Clean Burn expects dirt work to continue for the next couple of months and concrete pouring should begin in April 08. Construction is expected to take sixteen months to complete and the plant will be ready for start-up mid 2009.
Construction costs to build the plant are in the $100 million range.
Currently, Clean Burn is the only ethanol project in North Carolina to get this far in development. Additional plants are expected to be built in Jamesville, Aurora, Saint Pauls, Benson and Spring Hope. Projects in Hubert, Snow Hill and Fayetteville have been put on-hold or cancelled.
