CNNC Signs Agreement to Develop Nuclear Power Project in Central China's Hunan Province

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The signing ceremony of the Framework Agreement on Cooperative Development of Chenzhou Nuclear Power Station between China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) (Beijing) and the Municipal Government of Chenzhou was held in Beijing on July 27, 2009. LI Jinying, Director of the Planning Department of CNNC and XIANG Lili, Mayor of Chenzhou City signed the Agreement on behalf of both parties.

Chenzhou Nuclear Power Station is the second nuclear power project proposed by CNNC in Central China's Hunan Province following the Taohuajiang Nuclear Power Station, which is currently undergoing pre-construction activities and is expected to begin construction officially in 2010.

The newly proposed project will be furnished with four 1,000-megawatt (MW) nuclear power units in phases. According to the Agreement, both parties will jointly setup a project company led by CNNC to build the project.

CNNC began discussions with the Municipal Government of Chenzhou regarding the development of the nuclear power project three years ago. In July 2006, KANG Rixin, General Manager of CNNC, reached a common understanding with a delegation from the Municipal Government of Chenzhou, and decided to kick off the pre-stage preparation for the project. The signing of the Agreement marks that the pre-stage preparation for the project is officially kicked off.

As a province rich in uranium resources, Hunan has made great contribution to the development of China's nuclear industry. As the main force in China's nuclear industry, CNNC is a company integrated with research and development, engineering, construction and operation of nuclear power. The company currently has three nuclear power stations in operation, three under construction and a dozen more in construction or pre-stage preparation.
