Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Columbia Gulf Transmission Company (Houston, Texas), a business unit of NiSource, Incorporated (NYSE:NI) (Merrillville, Indiana), is planning to construct a new natural gas pipeline from Louisiana to Mississippi referred to as the Eastern Lateral. The new 30 diameter natural gas transmission pipeline will originate in the vicinity of Venice, Louisiana and will extend approximately 90 miles and terminate near Pascagoula, Mississippi. The new pipeline proposal will have a capacity of over 750 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of natural gas.
To support the pipeline operations, Columbia Gulf Transmission also plans to construct two new natural gas compressor stations. The first compressor station will be located near the pipeline origination point near Venice, Louisiana and will be up to 10,000 horsepower in size. The second station will be located near Centerville, Louisiana, slightly upstream of where the Eastern Lateral Pipeline project begins and will be rated up to 5,000 horsepower in size. It has yet to be decided whether the compressor packages will be electric or turbine driven units.
Columbia Gulf has awarded the engineering contract for the Eastern Lateral to Universal ENSCO, Incorporated (Houston, Texas) and hopes to file with the FERC by February of 2007. Construction on the Eastern Lateral Pipeline should begin in 2008, with a completion date targeted for some time in 2008.
